People all over the world are adjusting to ever-evolving constraints and circumstances right now. We at Anchor are experiencing this not only in our own lives, but we’re also hearing from users that there’s an increased need for podcasting tools that can adapt to the current circumstances. Talking to each other, sharing stories, and sparking conversations are a crucial part of staying connected, and right now, podcasting is one of many ways those connections can be maintained. So we wanted to make it easier to record with others, even from a distance.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working quickly to expand Anchor’s remote podcasting functionality to include more devices and fewer logistics. Now with Record With Friends 2.0, currently in beta, up to 4 people can join your podcast recording from any device, on desktop or mobile, with or without an Anchor account. In order to join your recording, all your guest has to do is click an invitation link and type in their name. Like the rest of Anchor’s podcasting platform, Record With Friends is free to use and available globally.

Here’s how it works:

To invite guests to your podcast, start recording from the Anchor app and tap ‘Invite friends to join.’

Invite up to 4 other people to join your recording. The invite link will open in your guests’ preferred browser on desktop or mobile (support for Google Chrome coming soon), or in the Anchor app, if they have it. To help you keep track of who’s speaking, each guest will be asked to type in their name before joining.

For the best recording experience, make sure everyone on the call has a strong Wi-Fi connection and try to minimize disruptions or changes to your internet source.

Here are some thought starters:

  • A group episode to reconnect with some friends you haven’t seen in a while
  • Reaching out to someone you’ve always wanted to learn from
  • An episode dedicated to checking in with various friends to see how they are doing, live
  • Catch up with your mom and ask her questions you’ve never asked before
  • Review your favorite show or film in real time with your friends
  • A funny podcast with your kids (or nieces, or nephews!)

Podcasting is better together, and now it’s a little easier to stay connected. Tap ‘Invite friends to join’ in the Anchor app to capture your conversations, wherever you are.
